MTHFR Mutation Associated with Homocysteine Metabolism
The prevalence of homozygotes with the MTHFR mutation is 12% in the Caucasian population. This mutation is reflected in high serum levels of homocysteine. Recent studies have shown that these high levels constitute an independent risk factor for cardiovascular, cerebrovascular or peripheral vascular diseases.

Sampling and Characteristics
Screening for the C677 MTHFR mutation is performed using a blood sample (EDTA tube – 5 ml) or a buccal swab.

Terms of Payment
In most cases, private insurance companies will cover the cost of this test.
