New Investigative Tool to Provide Leads in No-Suspect Cases
Warnex PRO-DNA Services is proud to offer PRO-DNA® Lead, a new service that can provide investigative leads by determining the ancestral background of a suspect or victim based on crime scene samples. Warnex is collaborating with Sorenson Forensics, based in Salt Lake City, UT, to exclusively offer this new service in Canada.
PRO-DNA® Lead uses DNA markers called Ancestry Informative Markers (AIM) to ascertain an individual’s genetic ancestry. AIMs are composed of single base pair polymorphisms (SNP) in DNA sequences that vary between human populations.
PRO-DNA® Lead analyzes the affinity of an unknown human DNA sample to 5 reference populations (West Europe, East Asia, West Africa, Indigenous America and India Subcontinent) to determine the individual’s genetic ancestry and provide a clue as to the individual’s physical appearance.

- DNA is degraded beyond regular nuclear STR and MiniSTR analysis
Sample Types
Any single source crime scene DNA sample is a candidate for this service.
Results
Test results show the likely resemblance (genetic affinity) of an individual to 5 major reference populations. Results are reported as relative percentages of ancestral mixture, including degree of affinity and standard deviations. Values may represent a recent mixture from parental populations (ex. West African mother and West European father) or a more specific ancestral group. Click here to view example results.
